S/V Windom

These are the voyages of the sailboat Windom, a Caliber 40LRC (formerly) owned by Britt Bassett and Ilana Stern of Durango, Colorado.  Our five year mission -- wait, wrong show.

When we returned from our 2007 cruise, we put Windom on the market, and now our former home is someone else's boat.  There are many aspects of the cruising life we miss, and maybe we'll set sail again in the future on a new boat, but there are other adventures we plan to have, and we are looking forward to those.

You can see current photos at our flickr site and read about some of the things we're doing at Ilana's livejournal .

Windom's cruising adventures 1999-2002

In 1999, we moved aboard, installed lots of equipment, cruised around the Chesapeake, and traveled down the Intracoastal Waterway to Florida. Read our 1999 logs online or download the 1999 logs as a zip file (251 Kb).

In 2000 we cruised the Bahamas, crossed back over to the US, sailed up the coast, cruised Maine and New England, then sailed south to Florida. Read our 2000 logs online or download the 2000 logs as a zip file (243 Kb through Oct 11).

In 2001 we traveled the "thorny path" through the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico to the eastern Caribbean islands, then headed west from Trinidad through the Venezuelan offshore islands and the ABCs to Cartagena, Colombia. Read our 2001 logs online.

In 2002 we spent time in Cartagena and some Colombian islands, Panama including the San Blas Islands and a trip through the Canal on another boat, then sailed north through various islands off the Central American coast, to the west coast of Florida, put Windom in storage, and traveled back to Colorado. Read our 2002 logs online.

Technical details

While within range of the US coast we have internet access via cell phone - basically, a slow dialup link.  Occasionally we snag wireless in US and Bahamian harbors, but most of the time, once away from the US, we have only email (via our ham radio and Winlink ).  Our current logs are updated by email using Blogger and flickr.  You can also read our logs at LiveJournal on [info]sv_windom or using another aggregator via our xml Atom feed
