Rock Climbing
Climbing appeals to me for lots of reasons. It's a fun way of getting
exercise, it's surprisingly cerebral (like solving a crossword puzzle
with your body), and it is a terrific excuse for going to scenic places.
The photo above is me toproping "Easy Day
for A Lady" (uncropped full photo,
92497 bytes) which as far as this lady was concerned, wasn't!
This lovely offwidth is in Fremont Canyon, Wyoming. We climbed several
other routes there, including Peterson's
Corner (86515 bytes). Fremont was just a minor stopover after the
main event of our late-May 1997 Wyoming trip:
(If you haven't figured it out yet, we climbed
this thing.)
Some photos of me on Ruper, a classic 5.8 route in Eldorado
Canyon near Boulder:
- starting up the 5.8 second pitch, the
infamous Ruper Crack (uncropped
and 2x size version of photo to right, 53862 bytes)
- just below the 5.8
crux of the sixth pitch (kind of dark,
48312 bytes)
Some of my trip reports on Eldorado Canyon climbs:
Mark Kochte, otherwise known
as "Indiana Mark", took these
pictures of me during a trip to Vedauwoo (Wyoming):
His trip report,
written in inimitable Indy style.
