Hiking, Backpacking

...and other miscellaneous outdoors stuff

The best usage of my free time that I can think of is spending it out in the wilderness. That's one of the nice things about living in Colorado: there's a lot of it close enough that I can spend a casual weekend doing what many people can only do on carefully-planned vacations.

More photos

In September 1994 we did a pack trip with Britt's parents in the Weminuche Wilderness, which is near their ranch in Bayfield. Here's a slightly out-of-focus picture of me pretending to be a horsewoman (35862 bytes).

I've backpacked in the Grand Canyon twice, both times at Thanksgiving.

There are two more Grand Canyon photos on my rafting page .

In June and July 1993, we drove to Alaska! What a wonderful trip.

  • On the way, we stopped in Kluane National Park, in the Yukon Territory of Canada, and climbed Mt. Decoeli (41070 bytes). (This photo was taken by putting the camera on a rock and setting the timer.)
  • Overlooking the Harding Icefield near Seward (original 2x version of photo at top, 27253 bytes)
  • Backpacking towards Polychrome Pass in Denali National Park (46175 bytes)
  • My father-in-law flew in and joined us for the ferry trip to Bellingham, WA. Ok, it's not hiking, but wonderful scenery! (28884 bytes)
